ABOUT ME

The world is full of mysteries, but I only want to explore what intestests me most. The true passion only comes from on-going exploration and hard work.

  • I am a laser designer. My doctoral study has been on the developement of mid-infrared lasers. I have a solid understanding of laser principle. Two breakthroughs were achieved during my research by novel design and optimization.

  • I am a computer programmer. For research, I did a lot of numerical calculations in Matlab, and some automatic data collection in Labview. Now I have been learning Python, Java and other web developing languages.  I really appreciate the programming paradigm of object oriented and the design pattern. I share what I have learned in my blogger (link).

  • I am an active runner and finished 2 full marathons in 2015 (link). I think both the body and the brain need regular exercise to become stronger. What's more important is that I enjoy the training~ How did I finish 26.2 miles?  One more mile each time. It is that simple!

EDUCATION

2003- 2007

University of Beijing Posts and Telecommunications

B.S. in Applied Physics

RESEARCH INTERESTS

Interband cascade (IC) lasers

IC lasers have been demonstrated as a most efficient lasers in 3~5 micrometers. Further understanding the device physics and structure optimization will continue to improve the laser performance.

University of Oklahoma

Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering

Characteristic temperature (T0) of diode lasers

It is well known that T0 is very small, e.g., 40~60 K for infrared lasers. It can be attributed to the  carrier loss due to Auger recommbination and insufficient band offset. A quantitative and comprehensive model is currently under work.
